Kuih Apam Beras has a spongey texture with a sweet and mildly sour flavour.
Leftover rice is used to make Apam Beras. Once rice is added in the batter mixture, it is then left to rest for at least a couple of hours before being steamed. This resting period allows the mixture to ferment which adds a nice touch of sourness to the kueh. This batter is poured into small ceramic cups that are then steamed for a few minutes. It is usually served with a generous garnish of shredded coconut (mixed with salt for taste).
Soft, fluffy with a mix of sweet and sour flavours, Apam Beras is a popular kueh usually eaten at breakfast or tea time.
